    The story begins with a woman and a dream. Shirley Kautman-Jones was working at the bank full-time and her co-workers needed some help impressing the men in their life. Shirley, being a natural in the kitchen, would send them home with little bags of spices and easy recipes to follow. Her creations were an instant success and she realized it was time to expand outside her comfort zone of co-workers at the bank. She decided to start taking her savings and driving down to the market in Detroit, MI to price out different spices for her combinations. Her next idea was to sell her bags of spices at a craft bazaar at the Church. She labeled each bag 75-cents each and set up her table with samples of her creations. To her surprise, she sold all 100 bags in a matter of minutes. Shirley knew she was on to something, and that people were craving delicious dishes without a lot of hassle. She took her profits back down to that market in Detroit and the process began.

CHC has garnered several awards over the years, even being recognized as Country Business Magazine's first Vendor of the Year in 2000. This award was an especially proud moment, since the national magazine's readers selected CHC to receive the honor. CHC’s New York Style Cheesecake Mix was even featured on QVC and sold-out in a matter of minutes. CHC has been featured on several local media outlets including WJRT, WNEM, WSMH and Detroit’s WXYZ.

CHC prides itself on simplifying gourmet. The company uses as many all-natural ingredients  whenever possible and offers hundreds of versatile recipes in more than one cookbooklet and on the company’s website. Customers call all the time to share their recipe ideas and talk with the friendly staff for tips, recipes and to see what’s new. Most of them have come to learn that the voices on the line are familiar friends who have been with CHC for years. Since those modest beginnings in the early 1980’s, Shirley and the family at Country Home Creations, Inc. have gone global. CHC has moved from a basement operation to a more than 10,000 square foot facility that employs more than 20 people.
