How to Soften Cream Cheese

How to Soften Cream Cheese

Have you ever started a recipe, only to find out it calls for softened cream cheese, and yours...isn’t? It happens to all of us, and if you’re anything like me, it happens ALL the time.

Here’s a trick to getting softened cream cheese in no time!

First, remove the cream cheese from the wrapper, and place on a microwave-safe dish. Cut cream cheese into even-sized chunks. Leave space between each piece so all sides heat at the same time. This allows for even softening and fewer hot spots. Cover with a piece of paper towel to prevent splattering.

Next, place the cream cheese in the microwave for 1 minute (times may vary
depending on microwave). Stir once after 30 seconds to distribute heat and check consistency. Microwave for an additional 30 seconds, or until the desired consistency is reached. Overheating will cause cream cheese to become runny. Cream cheese should be soft and creamy.

It’s that easy!
